The staff at SCPS have declared that 2015/16 will be the Year of Reading!

We are all determined that more than ever before the school will leave no stone unturned in securing a genuine love of reading in all of our pupils. Therefore throughout the year there will be a number of reading themed events going on. Some of these have already started.

There will be competitions (with fantastic prizes), featured books, author visits, a focus on famous authors through our assemblies, book swaps and hopefully a new team of reading volunteers who will spare time to listen to pupils read on a regular basis.

The team of volunteers will be called the ‘Spring Cottage Bears’ and if you can spare some time each week to listen to readers why not volunteer? Each volunteer would receive full training in order to help support pupil development through the school.

We are also looking for ‘guest’ readers, people from different walks of life who still find time to read their favourite books.

If you are interested in supporting the Year of Reading at home the website http://www.wordsforlife.org.uk has some fantastic resources and ideas to support reading right from children being a baby.

Our school website will keep you updated through the year around the different activities we are holding.
